Saving Water at Home

Recently, some areas in the country were bugged by shortage in water supply. Indeed, three-fourth part of the world is made up of water, yet, not all portion is potable and for household and commercial use. We rely much on rain to keep our supply at natural cycle. However, if Mother Nature do not schedule enough rain to fill our dams to acceptable level, then, shortage is inevitable.

To save us from thirst, then, save water and start at home:

a. Check if all the pipes are installed properly and those with leaks must be repaired in no time. Defective faucets must be replaced. Spray taps and faucet aerator are best to limit the amount of water to be used.

b. Save your cooking water, use a stock or a base for soups.

c. At the toilet, a dual flush system is recommended. Also, recycle the water accumulated from washing clothes and use it for flushing discharges.

d. Minimize use of sprinklers. Do not water your plants when the heat is at its peak. The water evaporates fast at this time. You can also move your plants out of direct sunlight.

e. Collect rain water. This can be used for gardening plants, washing your car or cleaning your front yard.
