Wives are for house chores. Husbands are for fixing 101’s. So, if your roof is leaking, then the hubby must initiate the action.
- First, the source of the leak must be identified as the water may tend to flow sideways before it directly drops onto the floor.
- Once detected, take some measurements for you to locate the leak outside.
- You may drill a hole on the ceiling to let the water through. Also, this keeps the ceiling from saturation that may break it down and consequently calls for replacement.
- Take extra caution in locating the leak outside. Remove any obstruction on the roof that deters the water to freely run such as dried leaves or debris. Step on the portion where the screws are fixed as this is the stronger portion of the roof.
- Make temporary repairs by applying flashing cement on the crack of previously patched areas. Look for damaged asphalt or shingles and replace if necessary. Be sure to properly dab roofing cement before you install new shingle.
- Contact a professional roofer if you think the situation calls for it.
